Affidavit: Accused murderer robbed Motte

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - A Nacogdoches man robbed Michael Motte after shooting him, an arrest affidavit states.

Nickevette Carey, 20, is charged with capital murder in the death of the former SFA football player.

According to the affidavit, police responded to a call of a gunshot victim at 1:46 a.m. Saturday at 603 Old Tyler Road. Dispatch learned Carey was possibly in a blue Dodge Durango that fled the scene northbound on Old Tyler Road.

An officer began searching for the vehicle and saw a blue Durango headed northbound on Old Tyler Road and unsuccessfully attempted to stopit.

According to the affidavit, the vehicle stopped near the intersection of Old Tyler Road and County Road 804, and Carey fled the scene and the remaining four occupants of the vehicle were detained.

The affidavit states the occupants said Carey had fled the vehicle and they had all been together at Harlon's Bar-B-Que, where they learned Mott was in possession of a large sum of money. They also said Carey made reference before the shooting of robbing Mott.

As the occupants were standing outside, they heard several gunshots, the affidavit states. They fled the scene and Carey called them and asked they pick him up at the intersection of Powers Street and Old Tyler Road.

The affidavit states Carey met them there and had a handgun in one hand and money in the other and indicated to them he shot and robbed Mott.

Carey was arrested by Shelby County authorities in Center shortly after 7 a.m. and NPD detectives transported him back to Nacogdoches. Carey is in jail with bond pending a hearing in district court.
