COPY-Lufkin woman says man charged in deaths has gone missing

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A Lufkin woman says the man charged in the deaths of her grandson, daughter and another man has gone missing.

Belinda Thomas said law enforcement has told members of her family that they can not locate Vicente Gonzalez, 30, of Corrigan.

A spokesman with the Department of Public Safety could only say it is an ongoing investigation.

Gonzalez is charged with three counts of intoxicated manslaughter and one count of intoxicated assault after allegedly driving drunk in the incorrect lane on U.S. 59 near Diboll on May 29 and hitting an oncoming vehicle.

Willy Lacy, 48, of Alto, and Crystal Thomas, 29, of Lufkin, died on the scene and Crystal Thomas' son, Christopher Gross, 4, died June 5 in a Dallas hospital.

"It completely sucks," Belinda Thomas said. "Somebody takes a life and they get to ride off in the wild blue yonder and not have to pay for the crime. Somebody should've been watching him from Day One."

Belinda Thomas said her other grandson, Jovair Thomas, who was injured in the wreck, is out of the hospital now and recovering from a lacerated liver, neck fracture and a spinal injury. She said she was told it is too early to tell if he will have any permanent damage.
