Unfortunate Accident Kills Lufkin Man

An unfortunate Christmas Eve accident has claimed the life of a Lufkin man. Roy Albert Edwards, 49 of Lufkin was found dead in a ditch full of mud around 2:30 p.m. Christmas Eve. The accident occurred at 1:30 that morning on Highway 59 North of Lufkin.

Police say Edwards' truck left the roadway and skidded to the top of the hill, where he apparently got stuck in the mud. Edwards apparently got out of his truck to lock it in four-wheel drive, when he slipped in the mud, landing head-first in the empty 5 foot deep ditch.

Edwards was pronounced dead at the scene. The death is being ruled an accident but an autopsy is being conducted. Investigators are curious why it took 13 hours to find Edwards' body.
