Texas retailers are hoping for a strong end-of-the year showing as they opened on Thursday for post-Christmas sales. Analysts say some customers have been reluctant to spend, uninspired by the lack of must-haves and worried about the economy.
Despite that though, shoppers in Lufkin were out bright and early. Many stores, including target, opened their doors at 7 a.m. for those looking for bargains. Local retailers say sales are not as good as they expected, but not as bad as predicted by analysts.
"Our guests have been coming and shopping, buying lots of things. Our sales have not maybe been what was forecasted, but they are over last year's sales," said Jayne Lowe of Target.
