Nacogdoches Police to host Citizens' Academy

The Nacogdoches Police Department will host its 14 session of the Citizens' Police Academy this year. The academy will meet on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the training center at the Police Station at 312 West Main. The course will begin Sept. 8 and graduation is set for Nov. 24.        

The twelve-week course is designed to give students a broad-based knowledge of the operations of the NPD, and an insight into law enforcement. Students will be able to participate in hands-on activities such as simulated traffic stops and crime scene investigations. Students will also be able to ride along with Nacogdoches Police Officers on patrol.

This is a free program open to area residents ages 21 and over. Enrollment is limited to 25 students.

Applications are now available at the Nacogdoches Police Station at 312 West Main Street or by calling 559-2607. Applications will be accepted through Aug. 21.
