LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - President Obama unveiled his plan to invest $12 billion into America's community colleges.
The President of Angelina College, Larry Phillips, said it's good news as long as the money makes it to the campus and doesn't get road-blocked by state government or committees. He said they could use the money, now that almost 1,000 students have enrolled for the second summer session alone.
"There are over 1,200 community colleges in the nation and the last time I did the math, $12 billion divided by 1,200, I wish we would get our share, would be $10 million a piece. With not even half of that money, we could make a huge impact in the lives of students and people here in East Texas," Phillips said.
Obama's proposal aims to help 5 million Americans work toward getting degrees and education certificates.
