Shelby County deputies report mysterious cattle deaths

SHELBY COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Examiners are investigating the deaths of five black Brangus cattle after they were found on a property near Timpson, according to a Shelby County Sheriff's Office press release.

Lt. Derek Barbee, who first responded to the call at 7:35 p.m. Wednesday, reported there were no visible signs on any of the cattle. Because an oil well site is located on the property belonging to Sam Hooper, the sheriff's office notified the Railroad Commission, who sent a representative to the scene.

Specimens from the cattle were then sent to Texas A&M University to determine a cause of death.

The release states no other information is available until the examination is complete.
