Unemployment figures up 1.2 percent across East Texas

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The unemployment rate for the Deep East Texas workforce increased to 9.1 percent in June, according to the latest figures released Friday.

Out of the 168,622 member workforce, 15,414 are unemployed.

While the number of jobless has risen, so have those who have jobs, as the number increased to 153,208, compared to 152,224 in May.

In Lufkin, employment increased by 16 jobs from May, to 15,461, but the unemployment rate jumped to 9.1 percent, from 8 percent in May.

The city of Nacogdoches lost 32 jobs, with 15,419 members of the workforce employed, compared to 15,451 in May.
