LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Exactly one year ago Friday, drivers across America were paying the highest gas prices ever; shelling out just over $4 a gallon.
AS of Friday the national average stands at $2.48 gallon, down nearly 40% from last year's surge. KTRE talked to people at the pump Friday, who said they vividly remember last summer's dreaded trips to fill-up.
"I'm still staying in town mostly, I usually don't travel like I used to," said Sharlon Canada, driver. "[If] gas gets down to about $1.50, I'll be alright," he said.
Canada said anything is better than $4 a gallon. Last year gas prices were driven by the unexpected rise in crude oil.
