Butch Almany is a legend in the Texas High School band world, although he insists he "never played a note or marched a step" when his Lindale Band won its numerous awards. He gives all the credit for his many successes to "the kids". "They did it all", he says.

Almany, who grew up in a family of nine children in Nacogdoches, credits his dad for his start in music and his first band director, B.Conkle, as his inspiration. From Stephen F, Austin University to band directorships at Shelbyville, Crocket and Overton, before his long tenure at Lindale, Almany was in his element.

The Texas Bandmasters Association has named Butch Almany as "Bandmaster of the Year for 2009 and will honor him at their convention in San Antonio July 28th, a fitting tribute for a man who has inspired two generations to form a lifetime love of music. The Lindale High School Band Hall, named in his honor, will influence future generations as well.
