SFA making way for new campus housing

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - A familiar Nacogdoches landmark will be demolished to make room for something new.

Garner Apartments, on the SFA campus will be torn down. The student housing is the tallest building in Nacogdoches.

Firefighters routinely practiced repelling off the building.

The distinctive circular structure has been around since 1968.  A new 400-bed dorm, with a more traditional design of 2, four-story wings will go in its place. What was, the first 'coed dorm' on campus, will be introduced to the wrecking ball within a year.

Campus administrators are already kicking around ideas on how to commemorate a football win. The tower is lit up with purple lights after each victory.
