On January 7, 1999, 2 of William King's lawyers filed a motion asking that they be allowed to withdraw from the case. The lawyers, Sonny Cribbs and Brack Jones Junior said that their client refused to attend the pre-trial hearing. They said that King filled the air with 4-letter words and told them he had no intention of going to the courtroom.
Cribbs said there were personality conflicts between he and his client and King refused to talk to him.
The judge denied the lawyers motion, forcing them to remain with their client throughout the trial.
