Transportation program for East Texas veterans expanding

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A recently passed House bill will allow expansion of the current veterans transportation program in Lufkin, according to a Brazos Transit District press release.

The release states $300,000 will be used to expand the service to San Augustine, Nacogdoches, Angelina and Houston Counties and will provide a rural transit feeder service into Lufkin's Jennings Station to connect the Lufkin VA clinic with the one in Houston.

"In this difficult economy, it is important that government funding be prioritized, such as making sure our deserving veterans can get to and from their needed health care," Congressman Louis Gohmert stated in the press release. "Those who have put their lives on the line in defense of the country and have borne injury as a result deserve no less."
