Angelina County United Way sets lofty goal amid challenging economic times

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Angelina County United Way has set its 2009 campaign goal at 525-thousand dollars.

After three days of budget committee hearings, the United Way board on Wednesday accepted the committee's recommendation to lower the goal from last year's 600-thousand dollars.  Now that the campaign goal is set, and division chairs have been named, the focus turns to the community.

Campaign chairman Jay Jackson is optimistic.  He said the goal is a lofty one, but he's confident that the citizens of Angelina County will continue their commitment to the United Way.  "We have over 35 people on the budget hearing committee and their goal is to make sure that we are good stewards of all of the contributions that we receive at United Way," Jackson said.

The Angelina County United Way campaign drive begins in September.  Twenty-three local non-profit agencies, including Hospice in the Pines, Salvation Army, Red Cross, Women's Shelter, Senior Citizens Center, benefit from United Way dollars.
