NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - The poker game "Texas Hold 'Em" is usually a form of taking money from all your friends and for bragging rights. For a Nacogdoches softball team, it's all fun and games, plus it's an important fundraiser.
"We are hosting a poker tournament in an effort to raise money so that we can afford to go to Nationals," said Nitro Softball coach Roger McKnight. "Nationals [are] in Gulfport, MS. We expect to do extremely well there and your support and support of all these players has been greatly appreciated."
The team will now "flop" over to Gulfport and turn-in a great performance to hopefully bring home a trophy by the river.
"We wanted to do something that was a little more exciting for some of the other participants in the community and give something back that they would be giving to us," McKnight said. "We decided that a poker tournament would be an excellent way to take advantage of that situation."
The team ended pool play" Thursday afternoon. They are 1-1 and will begin bracket play Friday at 1:30 p.m.
