Cash for Clunkers program could go on

WASHINGTON - Lawmakers are trying to save the "cash for clunkers" program.

So many people have been rushing to dealers that the program's $1 billion budget has been nearly wiped out. The House voted today to add $2 billion to the program, which gives car buyers as much as $4,500 for scrapping an old car and getting a more fuel-efficient one.

The Senate hopes to win approval for additional funding next week.
