LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A community rallied together Sunday to raise money for a Lufkin teenager in need of a kidney. Countless East Texans gathered in the Sam's Club parking lot to show support for 16-year-old Adam McCleskey.
Food and drug items were on sale. Every penny will help Adam get to Baltimore, Maryland, where his mother said he can hopefully receive a kidney transplant. She said the turnout of Sunday's fundraiser was overwhelming.
"Adam has always been very reserved because he doesn't want to be disappointed, but with seeing all of the community support it's given him his hope also," she said. "He's very excited."
She said this fundraiser wouldn't be possible without the Flood Sisters of America and of course, all of the local businesses.
