LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - In light of the difficult economic times, the Lufkin Chamber of Commerce is experiencing a boom in membership.
The chamber has about 150 new members. About 25 new businesses set-up booths at First Friday, handing out everything from free hotel stays to fudge brownies. The chamber is made up of all different types of businesses, everything from service industries to lawyers.
"We have a strong program and we have strong participation, so we have not seen a large fall off in membership," said Van Watson, Vice Chaiman of Lufkin's Chamber of Commerce. "We're seeing very active membership and we expect that to continue."
Lufkin High School football coach John Outlaw was the featured speaker at Friday's event. Coach Outlaw said he's looking forward to a great year for panther football.
