Lufkin native Brandon Belt signs with the S.F. Giants for $200K

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Lufkin native Brandon Belt signs with the San Francisco Giants, who selected him in the 5th round of the MLB Draft in June.

The now former Texas Longhorn first baseman takes his money and will continue his career swinging a wood bat instead of an aluminum one.

Belt help lead the Longhorns to the College World Series this past season before losing to LSU in the Championship. Belt lead the Longhorns in batting average this past season, he made his decision just three days short of the August 17th deadline which is set for drafted players to sign a professional contract.
