Local newspapers announce layoffs

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Two local newspapers have announced a round of layoffs, more than two months after Cox Newspapers sold them to Southern Newspapers, a spokesman with the company said.

According to The Lufkin Daily News Publisher Greg Shrader, nine full-time and two part-time positions were eliminated at The Daily News. Two full-time and two part-time positions were eliminated at The Daily Sentinel.

Rayanne Schmid, previously the managing editor of The Kerrville Times, replaces Karla DeLuca as publisher of The Daily Sentinel.
