Governor appoints Broaddus man to state boating board

AUSTIN (PRESS RELEASE) - Gov. Rick Perry has appointed three members to the Recreational Boating Safety Advisory Panel, pursuant to House Bill 3108 passed during the 81st Legislature, for terms to expire at the pleasure of the governor.

The panel will conduct a study to assess current conditions of recreational boating safety and make recommendations to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the governor and Legislature.

Will Kirkpatrick of Broaddus is a retired network manager for AT&T, director of the Fishing School at the Stephen F. Austin State University Piney Woods Conservation Center at the Sam Rayburn Reservoir, and a self-employed bass fishing guide. He is a member of the Texas Outdoor Writers Association, past vice president of the Sam Rayburn Lake Association, and a past member of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Freshwater Fishery Advisory Board. Kirkpatrick served in the U.S. Navy.

Perry also named Lance Bruun of Corpus Christi and Rod Malone of Austin to the board.
