Wells man recovering from attack

WELLS, TX (KTRE) - A Wells man is recovering at home from injuries sustained in an attack Wednesday night, his mother said.

According to Police Chief Barry Starnes, at least three men attacked Marshall Ebarb, 24, with a baseball bat around 8:30 p.m. on the corner of Oldham Street and U.S. Highway 69, across the street from Ebarb's home.

His mother, Karen Yonts, said the attack was unprovoked and it took neighbors to stop the attack.

Starnes said no arrests have been made, but he plans to make three or four arrests soon.

"Someone has to own up to this," he said. "We interviewed a couple suspects and we just need to interview a few more people to make some arrests."

Starnes said Ebarb at first said he did not need medical attention after the attack, but he was "deteriorating fast" so they called for an ambulance. EMS workers told Starnes they did not want to take any chances with a head injury, so he was transported by helicopter to Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital.

Starnes said the suspects could be charged with aggravated assault.
