Friday Night Madness High School Football Recap

EAST TEXAS - (KTRE) - It was one of the biggest games of the year between the Lufkin Panthers and Tyler Lee Red Raiders and Lufkin walks away with the win and the bragging rights for another year.  The Panthers hosted the Raiders for their season opener.  Lee scored first, but Lufkin came back and never looked back, final score 27 - 13, Lufkin wins.  The Panther Nation will be on the road Friday at John Tyler.  Kick-off is 7:30.

The Nacogdoches Dragons pull off a close one in the final minutes of their game against Mt. Pleasant.  The Dragons eek past the Tigers 15 - 14.

Longview took on the defending 5A state champions, Allen, at Lobo Stadium.  Allen was up 17 points at the half, but a different Lobo team came out to finish the match.  Longview makes a dramatic comeback, Allen pulls within 3, but it wasn't enough, Longview wins 28 - 25.

A battle of the Bulldogs in a cross class 4A/3A matchup pitted Kilgore against the defending 3A state champions Carthage.  Carthage retains bragging rights with a 29 - 17 victory.

In District 14-4A, Henderson all over Navasota in a 47 - 0 shutout and Jacksonville tackles the Marshall Mavericks 35 - 27.

The Kirbyville Wildcats were at Lumberjack Stadium playing Diboll.  They get the lopsided win, Kirbyville 62 - Diboll 20.

Crockett fell to Oakhurst, 32 - 26.

Huntington starting the new season with a new head coach and a tough road game at Tarkington, runs into a lightning game delay due to bad weather, final score Huntington 7 - Tarkington 17.

Five years ago, Jasper and Gilmer played a classic at Homer Bryce Stadium for the Class 3A title.  Gilmer walked away with a win and the crown.  Now, 5 years later, same two teams, same location, same result, Gilmer gets the win, 42 - 14 over Jasper.

The Class 3A Center Roughriders shutout the Gladewater Bears Thursday night, 7 - 0.

Back to Friday night action, in Class 3A, Rusk falls to Palestine 33 - 7.

In your Small School Game of the Week feature, the San Augustine Wolves traveling to Alto to play the Yellowjackets, final score San Augustine 0 - Alto 42.

Class 2A Groveton takes on Class 1A Lovelady, final score, Groveton 22 - Lovelady 55.  By the way, Lovelady is picked to win the Class 1A District 22 title this year.

Garrison beat Hemphill 47 - 14.

Tenaha beats Maud, 12 - 6.

Mt. Enterprise shuts out Cushing,, 34 - 0.

Grapeland leaves Centerville scoreless, 26 - 0.

Colmesneil crushed by West Sabine, 44 - 6.

Apple Springs takes Baytown Christian to the woodshed, 56 - 8.
