Hemphill, Texas-AP -- An East Texas sheriff says there's no reason to be concerned about possible contamination of the area's water supply by debris from the space shuttle Columbia.Sheriff Tommy Maddox of Sabine County says people have been asking whether the water coming from a lake in the area is safe. He says he's spoken with federal authorities and with experts who assure him that the water supply is safe. Debris from the space shuttle is scattered through the region, and authorities have warned people not to come into contact with it -- partly because there were toxic materials on board.
