NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Normally a punter doesn't get a lot of attention on the football field but Stephen F. Austin punter/kicker Matt Baldwin is a different story.
"I have been kicking since I was five or six years old I was with my brother Bart and he taught me how to kick the ball," Baldwin said.
Baldwin comes from a family of athletes ranging from his dad playing quarterback at SMU and three brothers and a sister who all played division one sports. His older sister was a barrel racer at Stephen F. Austin. But two of his brother's also kicked and punted, and one played quarterback.
"Pretty fortunate that everyone in my family is an athlete thank god my dad was a quarterback at SMU we're all pretty fortunate to be at this point where we are."
Although Baldwin is the backup both punter and placekicker he still plays and practices as though he will be called upon at anytime in the game.
"Being a punter is like being on a rollercoaster of emotions you have to get ready then if they push it in your just chilling. Your cold then you have to get ready it's a roller coaster the whole entire game."
Look for number 82 roaming the sidelines this fall, the sophomore may be kicking in Homer Bryce Stadium some time soon.
