Scavenger Penalty

Authorities want to remind everyone that interfering with the investigation into the Columbia tragedy is a federal crime.

That includes anyone who tries to move or keep pieces of debris as souvenirs.

The United States Attorney's Office says they will prosecute violators to the fullest extent of the law.

If you are convicted of scavenging debris from the shuttle, you could face up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to 250-thousand dollars.
