FRISCO, Texas - The Ladyjacks earned their second weekly honor from the Southland Conference on Monday as the league announced that senior middle blocker Ashley Bailey has been named the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week after three standout matches at the Tulsa Invitational.
It is the first time she has earned a weekly league honor since taking defensive superlatives twice in 2007, and she has now been named to the all-tournament team in the Ladyjacks' last two tournaments.
Bailey was a force all weekend, offensively and defensively, as she was named all-tournament after three straight matches with at least 11 kills and six blocks in each of the Ladyjacks' three matches. SFA managed to go 2-1 on the weekend with wins over Texas Tech and Gonzaga and only fell in five sets to host Tulsa, who finished the weekend with a 8-2 overall record.
The senior had 11 kills and six blocks in Friday's opening loss to the Golden Hurricane before putting together a tremendous Saturday. She surpassed her career high twice on the tournament's final day, beginning early against Texas Tech with 16 kills on 31 tries while hitting .387 with six blocks - two of which were solo - in a four-set win over the Red Raiders. She followed that up a few hours later with another team-high offensive performance, landing 15 kills against Gonzaga with only two misfires on 27 tries to hit .481. She added another six rejections against the Bulldogs and averaged 1.38 blocks and 3.23 kills per set for the weekend, hitting .349 in the three matches.
Bailey has managed double-digit kills in each of her last four matches and is now swinging at a .270 clip for the season. Her blocks average has also been on the rise, now up to 1.12 per set, which is best for second in the league
