NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - A new music venue is putting Nacogdoches on the map. It's called 'Pickin In Nac'. Nacogdoches couple, Brent and Kati Harris is bringing award winning entertainers to an intimate area of Banita Creek Hall once a month.
While working in Houston for a period of time they developed a love of live music. "When we left that was about the only thing we missed from the big city," said Kati to the Nacogodches Rotary Club. They got to work and found a way to bring some of their favorite musicians to Nacogdches. It wasn't as difficult at they expected. "We didn't know which would be harder, getting the singers here or getting the listeners here," Kati said. It turns out both are coming.
Word about Pickin In Nac is spreading among the close circles of musicians. And the first two performances are near sell out. The acoustic sound of 'roots' genre music fills the room. That would be bluegrass, lite country, Americana and blues.
"We're different from some of the other venues in that it's seated. There are table cloths and candles on the table, but it's in a rustic atmosphere so it's not up tight. But it's all seated and the focus is on the music. The music is not the back ground noise," described Kati.
This Saturday, Gary P. Nunn will be the guest artist. He's the one who sings 'I want to go home with the Armadillo'. A portion of the proceeds will go to Make A Wish Foundation. For ticket information and purchase just go to www.pickininnac.com
