NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Evan Engwall has such a strong leg that he boots as a true freshman for the Stephen F. Austin football team. Two weeks in a row we bring you a Jack of the Week that uses his leg to help his football team excel.
Engwall was the Southland Conference special teams player of the week in his first career game against SMU two weeks ago. Blasting the ball through the uprights from distances of 46, 38, and 48 yards out, the 48 yard kick was not his career best but longest by a kicker for SFA since 2004.
"The first kick I wasn't really nervous I felt more numb than anything I just went out there and I didn't think about it at all." Engwall Said.
The freshman kicker from Derby, Kansas stays loose on the sideline by warming up kicking into the net periodically during the game.
"Well during the game I try to kick into the net as much as possible to make sure my leg is fresh when I go into the game I just don't think about it I just do everything that I'm use to."
Engwall scored 11 points in the teams loss against SMU on September 5th. He will be on the road this week when the team travels to Western Illinois for a road game the Lumberjacks will be trying to run their record to 2-1 after beating Texas College last week 92-0.
