Murder charges could be filed in death of Wells man

WELLS, TX (KTRE) - Wells Police are looking into possible murder charges after a man died nearly two months after a fight.

An autopsy has been ordered for the death of Jerry Hadaway, 55.

Hadaway was involved in an altercation with Daniel Redd, 23, on Aug. 22 on Fourth St. and Manor Loop.

According to Wells Police Chief Barry Starnes, Hadaway suffered head injuries. Starnes said he refused medical attention and would not file criminal charges. Starnes said a week after the altercation, Hadaway's condition took a turn for the worse. An ambulance was called to his home, but still he refused medical treatment. A day later, Hadaway checked himself into a hospital.

It appeared Hadaway's condition was improving, so he left the hospital. Hadaway then went to a rehabilition center. Hadaway died the morning of Oct. 13.

If it is determined Hadaway's death was the result of the fight, Starnes said murder charges will be filed against Redd.
