Angelina Co. Grand Jury indicts man for killing three in car wreck

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - An Angelina County Grand Jury indicted a Diboll fugitive for his alleged role in the drunk-driving deaths of three others in a May wreck near Diboll.

But the trial for Vincente Rico Gonzalez, 31, may never happen as he has been on the lam since leaving a Houston hospital while he was recovering from injuries sustained in the wreck.

Willy Lacy, 48, of Alto, and Crystal Thomas, 29, of Lufkin, died on the scene of the wreck and Crystal Thomas' son, Christopher Gross, 4, died June 5 in a Dallas hospital.

According to DPS reports, Gonzalez  was driving southbound in the northbound lane on U.S. 59, two miles north of Diboll, when he ran head-on into a northbound vehicle.

Gonzalez is formally charged with one count of intoxication assault and three counts of intoxication manslaughter.

Also indicted Thursday was Stephanie Powell, 37, of Lufkin, on three counts of credit card abuse. Powell is one of six charged in a June kidnapping.

According to an arrest affidavit, Powell used a credit card in July belonging to her previous employer, Duran Pools, and charged $681.95 at Best Buy, $431.92 at Sherwin Williams and $73.45 at Texas Inn and Suites, all of Lufkin.

Powell confessed to the credit card abuse, the affidavit stated.
