HEMPHILL, TX (KTRE) - Hemphill Police and Sabine County deputies are investigating the Oct. 20 shooting of two people following an apparent domestic dispute on Hemphill's downtown square.
According to Deputy David West, Hemphill Police drove up on a couple having a verbal altercation. The officer asked if anyone had been hurt and the couple said no. He instructed them to go home and they left separetely.
Heather Tarver, 20, returned to the house later that day with a mutual friend of the couple, Willis Washington, 26, to pick up her children.
That is when an argument ensued among Tarver, Washington and Tarver's husband, James Hoyle Jr., 27. West said Hoyle went into the house and returned with a shotgun, firing one into the driver's side window.
The bullet hit Willis in the left arm and Tarver in the left shoulder. Both were transferred to Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital and have since been released.
Hoyle was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault of a family member. A second charge is pending, as Washington has not pressed charges.
