CENTER, TX (KTRE) - Center Police have arrested a man who they say shot his friend multiple times in the chest at a residence Tuesday night.

Det. Joey Haley said Cedric Windell Osby, 50, was shot and killed in front of a residence on Brooks Street in east Center. "I saw the victim motionless, unresponsive laying on the ground," said Haley.

Haley arrived first on the scene. He said what he saw was chilling. "The shooter was leaned up against the hood holding that rifle and that was just a scary sight," said Haley.

Haley said Clinton Earl Gardner, 66, shot Osby at least six times in the chest with a rifle. "He took his rifle and just started blasting," said Haley. "There were no arguments, no fights, like I say they were actually friends."

According to Haley, the two had spent the day together squirrel hunting and drinking whiskey. "For him to pick up the rifle and have the motor skills to pick up, aim and shoot and hit his target multiple times at that distance, he obviously wasn't that intoxicated," explained Haley.

Haley said it is tough to understand how one man could take his friend's life. "I haven't seen any other motives other than it just being a cold blooded murder," said Haley.

Osby was pronounced dead at a Center hospital. Gardner was arrested and charged with murder. He is being held on a $100,000 bond.
