Alto going for district title against Cayuga

By Nick James -

ALTO, TX (KTRE) - Alto Yellowjackets (8-1) will be going for a district title on Friday night when they host the Cayuga Wildcats (7-1).  District 20 is waiting in the balance will be decided this week.  For all intensive purposes both teams will be in the state playoffs but the teams are playing for bragging rights and for the higher seed when the post-season begins.

A big key for Alto to win this Friday night will be how well the defense will do in containing the heralded University of Texas bound Traylon Shead.  According to head coach Keith Gardner he feels he's players will really be up for this game more than usual, for the simple fact that Shead will be playing big time division one college ball next year.

"It's not a whole lot of fun playing against teams that are not very good.  But when you get an opportunity to play against a state ranked team matter of fact two state ranked teams

lining up against each other the kids get excited.  There is no motivation speeches needed just time to get down for good football and get after them, Said Gardner."

Cayuga's Shead has over 8,800 yards rushing in his four year career with the wildcats and all tied for 5th in scoring touchdowns with 122.  Alto will be trying to contain him and make the Wildcats throw the ball.  The Yellowjackets will be lead by the rushing attack as well with Makio Houston and Javante Jones leading the way for Alto.  Kickoff is at 7:30 at Alto Yellow Jacket Stadium.
