High School Hero Appointed To Naval Academy

As many high school seniors are probably finding out, when it comes to getting accepted into college, competition can be fierce. But one Nacogdoches teen has found that it never hurts your chances of getting in when a member of Congress give you a reference.

Former KTRE High School Hero Marcus Fowler was presented with an appointment to the Naval Academy. Congressman Max Sandlin made the presentation this afternoon at Memorial Hospital in Nacogdoches. The naval academy only accepts 8% of its applicants, and Folwer says he feels very honored to be among those accepted.

"This is a great day for me. To be able to have the Congressman present me with this and to have my family here...it's a real honor for me," said Fowler.

Sandlin says while he was happy to give his recommendation, Fowler has earned the appointment on his own through his work ethic and leadership. Fowler plans on majoring in political science.
