LUFKIN, TEXAS (October 21, 2009)... "Halloween Boobies!  How Bra-Zarre?  Treat Yourself to a Mummy-Gram!" by Danielle Gorman of Lufkin in memory of her best friend Nancy Jones and in honor of her mother Charlcie Newburn and sister Teresa Oliver, both cancer survivors, was the first place winner of Lufkin's 1st Art Bra Contest.  The winning bras were announced and modeled at the Power of Pink! luncheon.  The Art Bra contest was presented by Memorial Health System of East Texas, Neches House Assisted Living, and Abeldt's Pharmacy.

"We were pleased with the response to this project.  The entries were delightful and sent messages to every woman on the importance of an annual mammogram," said Melissa Wheeler, Art Bra Contest coordinator for Memorial.  "The excitement not only raised breast cancer awareness and funds for cancer patients, it also generated a belief that anything can be accomplished when we put our minds to it.  Look for the bras to be used in conjunction with other cancer related events.  Of course, you'll want to start planning your design strategy for next year's competition!"

The Art Bras were judged by an official panel of judges including Danny Merrell and Sean Ericson from KYKS 105, Lynn Torres-Lufkin City Council Member and Lufkin ISD, Joy Rich-American Cancer Society, Michelle Briley-The Journey Magazine, Bryant Krenek-CEO & President of Memorial Health System of East Texas, Pierre Cromartie-KTRE-TV General Manager, and Denise Hoepfner-Lufkin Daily News.  There also was a People's Choice winner that was voted on by the public and employees of Memorial Health System of East Texas.

Winning second place was "Tools for Ta Ta's-Workin' 4 a Cure," designed by Dr. Cheryl Suiter and Amy Mullins in memory of Donna Clark.  Third place went to "Save Your Hooters," which was designed by the Lab and X-Ray Girls at Memorial Medical Center-San Augustine.  "Take Care of Your Texas Girls, Get Your Mammogram!" by Martha Reneau, Kay James, Mary Reeves and Betty Jones from Memorial's inpatient rehabilitation department took home the People's Choice Award.
