Home Catches Fire, Elderly Man Found Dead

An elderly East Texas man is found dead after his home catches fire. Investigators found 73-year-old Hal Junior Smith in his home at the intersection of FM 848 and Spur 248 in Chapel Hill Saturday afternoon.

Motorcycle Driver Injured in Accident

An East Texas man is in the hospital after wrecking his motorcycle. Longview police say the driver lost control of his motorcycle when he drove around a sharp curve at the corner of Hollybrook Drive and Loop 281.

Two Injured in Longview Train, Car Crash

A train collision with a car sends two people to the hospital in Longview. It happened around 3:45 p.m. Saturday on F.M. 1845 just east of Highway 31.


MARTINSVILLE, Va. (AP) - Police say they've arrested a suspect in the shooting deaths of four men at a North Carolina television shop. Police in Mount Airy, N.C., said Marcos Chavez Gonzalez was arrested early this morning at a motel in Henry County, Va., about 50 miles northeast of Mount Airy near the state line.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Jury selection is scheduled to begin today in the trial of a man accused of killing a popular Arkansas television personality. Curtis Lavelle Vance has pleaded not guilty to capital murder, rape and burglary. KATV-Little Rock anchorwoman Anne Pressly was found brutally beaten in her bed in 2008.

WASHINGTON (AP) - There's no expectations of unusual problems, but as a precaution, independent health advisers will begin monitoring the safety of the swine flu vaccine today. The specially appointed group of experts will hold private meetings to raise the red flag if the government misses anything.

CORPUS CHRISTI (AP) - The Coast Guard says it has suspended the search for one of two Navy pilots whose plane disappeared off the Texas coast Wednesday. The second pilot's body was found Friday. The Coast Guard says it will continue trying to find the aircraft.

HOUSTON (AP) - Members of a Texas infantry regiment have reunited with part of the Japanese-American combat outfit that rescued them during one of World War II's most famed battles. About forty of them marked the 65th anniversary of the rescue yesterday at a Houston fund-raising gala hosted by the National Japanese American Memorial Foundation.

HOUSTON (AP) - It's been 14 years since a Pearland woman's 18-month-old daughter went missing, and now Texas Rep. Pete Olson is getting the U.S. State Department to take another look at the case. The woman suspects Bianca Isabella Lozano was kidnapped by her father and taken to Mexico.

DALLAS (AP) - Texas-based oil and gas developer Denbury Resources says it will pay more than $2.6 billion in cash and stock to buy Encore Acquisition. It's a move to make Denbury one of the largest independent oil exploration and production companies in North America.
