Man sentenced to 50 years for raping Goodrich girl

LIVINGSTON, TX (KTRE) - A Polk County district judge has sentenced a man to 50 years in prison after he pleaded guilty Thursday to raping a Goodrich girl several times.

According to a press release from the Polk County District Attorney's Office, John Corgan Ogletree, 30, sexually assaulted the girl twenty to thirty times while she was 11 years old.

Ogletree will be eligible for parole no sooner than 2034.

The district attorney's office considered filing endangerment charges on the victim's mother, who allegedly knew of the assaults, but decided against it to protect the victim's best interests.

According to the press release, Ogletree confessed to the crime when questioned by a Polk County detective, but to only doing it five to ten times and that she had participated willingly. He also said he thought she was 13.

When asked by Detective Craig Finegan if he stopped to think that having sex with even a thirteen year old was wrong, Ogletree replied, "it never crossed my mind," the press release stated.

An indictment of sexual indecency with a child in Harris County is pending against the victim's brother-in-law, the press release stated.
