LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Last week's flooding rains brought Hwy 59 construction to a halt, but Monday, construction in Lufkin resumed.

TxDOT said the rain didn't slow the overall project down much. They said rain days are factored into projected construction time.

TxDOT said they've already poured a lot of the concrete and they're currently working on the main lanes of Hwy 59, the Tulane bridge, and the direct connector. They are hoping to open the Tulane U-turn bridges sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

"We've had quite a bit of rain and actually it doesn't slow us down, it stopped us, but as far as overall project, the rain hasn't really been a factor," said TxDOT Public Information Officer Kathi White.

They are still on-schedule to complete the project a year from now next October.  Also, White said even if the main Tulane bridge and the direct connector looks ready, they will not open until the end of the project because construction is ongoing underneath the bridges.
