Hackney Primary street switching to one-way during school zone hours

LUFKIN, TX (LPD press release) - The City of Lufkin and Lufkin ISD will implement a new school traffic plan for Hackney Primary School on Lubbock Street.

Beginning with the morning school zone this Monday, Lubbock Street will become a one-way street with traffic flow from south to north during the school zone hours of 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.  1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Traffic on Lubbock Street will become one-way during those time frames each school day, with traffic accessing Lubbock Street from Wood Avenue and leaving via Paul Street to the north.

Motorists wishing to go to Hackney Primary can come from Lufkin Avenue onto Wood Avenue and from there access Lubbock Street.  Signs will be in place and Lufkin Police officers will be in the school area helping implement this new traffic flow plan throughout next week.  Notices have been sent home with students and maps have been widely distributed.  A map of the plan is attached to this release.

This traffic plan was made necessary by the growing volume of traffic and the congestion created on Lubbock Street that would prevent residents from leaving their driveways during the peak school zone times.

"We believe that this plan will alleviate much of the school traffic congestion and ensure a smoother and safer flow of traffic to and around Hackney School," said Lt. David Young of the Lufkin Police Department.
