NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Our Jack of the Week is a young man named Devin Ducote a sophomore linebacker leading the Southland Conference with 80 tackles. In eight games he has tallied 10 per game.
Last spring Decote tore his ACL so he missed the entire season. Although he had to sit out and was penciled in to start at linebacker for the Lumberjacks he didn't let that discourage him from working hard.
"In the spring I tore my ACL so I had to sit out that whole year but it was a good opportunity for me to put some weight on and get the new freshman coming into the weight room and get them going," Decote said.
According to Stephen F. Austin defensive coordinator David Gibbs he feels as though Decote is a beast and seems to always be in the right place at the right time.
"He makes plays all over the field it's kind of funny I was talking to him the other day he was on the weak side and made a tackle all the way on the weak side. I was getting on the other linebackers that he's leading the conference in tackles their trailing him by about 20 or so tackles so they got a bet first to 100 wins, he does what he has to do to get it done," Gibbs said.
Ducote is the weak side linebacker so he makes a lot of plays by chasing and running them down from behind, but in the classroom he's focused and concentrates on what he needs to do to manage his time.
"I want to go into the coaching aspect you know teach and whatnot I want to be a history minor and kinesiology major and get certified and get in the classroom as quickly as possible."
Devin Ducote is a demon all over the field you can watch him up close and personal Saturday night against Nicholls State at Homer Bryce Stadium at 6pm Devin Decote is your Jack of the Week.
