LUFKIN, TX (KTRE)- We're used to them serving us as they tend to our every medical need, but tonight, it's all about the health care community as we stop to recognize their achievements.
"We are just here to honor the medical professionals whether it's a physician or a nurse or someone who has made an impact on the medical profession," said Chairman of Salute to Healthcare Task Force Tara Watson.
Lufkin has become a health care hub as the industry has helped to boost the economy.
"The medical community in Lufkin started in the 1940s with only two physicians and today we are actually over 200 physicians in Lufkin, so we have really grown in all these years," said Watson.
With health care a topic that's hard to avoid these days, medical professionals are glad to have a night to come together as they enjoy good food, drinks and celebration.
"It's nice that this group of professionals, that can have a night to honor them and just share with people what a joy it is to serve your fellow man in health care," CEO at Woodland Heights Medical Center Bill Weldon.
With all the hours and time put in to ensure the best medical service possible, this banquet is all about saying thank you.
"Bringing folks together in the community, recognize these people. It just re-energizes everybody, and we all need a little extra energy these days. I think it's a positive thing," said President and CEO of Memorial Health System of East Texas Bryant Krenek.
It's a night that's well deserved for the hard working individuals serving East Texas.
