LUFKIN, TX (KTRE)- Operation Christmas Child, also known as Samaritan's purse ministry is providing Christmas gifts to children all over the world. Several churches and organizations in the community are collecting shoe boxes packed with toys to be distributed to children ages 2 to 14. Some are also donating necessities such as deodorant, toothpaste and soap. Denman Avenue Baptist Church is hoping to make a difference this year.

"In our ministry, these aren't just shoe boxes that have toys. They're shoe boxes that have hope and have love, and communicate the Gospel that we care about you and that God loves you, and we really want people to understand that," said associate pastor Kevin Roy.

This church's goal is collect 400 shoe boxes by Wednesday. They feel they are well on their way. Once collected, all of these shoe boxes will be taken to Northwood Baptist Church in Nacogdoches, which is the main drop-off location in the area. People interested in contributing can go to either of the drop off locations.
