SHELBYVILLE, TX (KTRE) - Center Police assisted in another drug bust outside their jurisdiction Wednesday, something which has drawn criticism from the Shelby Count Sheriff.

According to a press release issued from the police department, Mark Wayne Martin Jr., 27, of Center and John Mayhaw, 41, were arrested in a meth lab bust in Shelbyville. Police had been involved in an undercover operation involving Martin for several months, the release stated.

Charges are pending in the case.

According to a KTRE report published Thursday, Sheriff Newton Johnson criticized the police department for participating in drug busts outside city limits, saying they should at least warn his department. But Police Chief Jim Albers said the police feel crime knows no boundaries, so they should not either.

The items used to manufacture the meth was purchased in Center, the report stated.

Constables Shad Sparks and Billy Hearnsberger assisted in the bust.
