East Texas still waiting for Hurricane Ike Funding

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE)- The board of directors of the deep East Texas council of governments held their monthly public hearing in Livingston yesterday to discuss Hurricane Ike funding.

The housing and urban development disallowed DETCOG's method of distribution for the second round of funding because of lack of detail on how this 208 million dollars will be distributed. Mayor Jack Gorden says this is money that East Texas desperately needs.

"This is the second round of funding and it was based on the same criteria as the first round. The first round was approved. The projects have been approved but the funding has not been released either. And here we are in the second round and we don't have the money from the first round," said Gorden.

He says he'll continue to visit with national representatives until the money is distributed throughout the twelve counties covered by DETCOG. Public hearings will also be held across the region.
