LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Lufkin Lady Panthers managed to consistently add on to their lead throughout their game against Hudson to take down the Lady Hornets, 75-51, Tuesday night at Panther Gym.
Mykie Smith led all scorers with 22 points, 10 of which came in the opening period.
"I feel like we played hard," Lufkin head coach Winfred Simmons said. "Our main goal tonight was to cut down on turnovers and minimize mistakes and I think we did that."
Hudson took an early 4-0 lead following a Brittany Livingston layup, but a Lufkin 6-0 run, followed by another 6-0 run and a 5-0 run put Lufkin up 17-7 with 1:45 left in the first quarter. An Ivorie Ford layup gave the Lady Pack a 21-11 lead to end the quarter.
An Emily Spivey three-pointer with 3:21 left in the half pulled Hudson to within six at 31-25 before Lufkin closed the quarter out with a 10-2 run.
Lufkin outscored Hudson 18-9 in the third and 16-15 in the fourth.
Other scorers for Lufkin were Ford (17), Kassie Jones (12), Bria Yarborough (10), Ebonie Williams (8), and Auxus Sowell, Kassy Cox and Jumorrow Locke (2).
Scorers for Hudson were Jade Havard (13), Chelsey Durbin (11), Hannah Smith (8), Spivey and Cortney Thorton (7), Tiffah Worrell and Brittany Livingston (2) and Kelsee Selman (1).
