Huntsville inmate escapes while being transferred

BAYTOWN, Texas (AP) - Authorities say a Texas inmate has escaped during a prison transfer after temporarily taking two prison guards hostage.

Officials believe Arcade Joseph Comeaux is armed and wearing a prison officer's uniform after the Monday morning incident.

According to a statement the Texas Department of Criminal Justice issued on Monday, officials say Comeaux was being transferred from a prison in Huntsville to one in Beaumont when he pulled out a gun. The 49-year-old man then took the prison officers' weapons and handcuffed them together in the back of the prison van before escaping on foot.

Police found the officers unharmed about 10 a.m. Monday.

The 6-foot, 200-pound Comeaux is serving a life sentence for convictions in Fort Bend County of indecency with a child, aggravated sexual assault and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
