Lufkin shoppers head online for Cyber Monday

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – Monday was the first day back to work after the Thanksgiving holiday and online retailers hoped workers would log on and shop online.  Deemed Cyber Monday for the great deals found on the web, local online shoppers planned on getting the best bang for their buck.

What makes shoppers head online instead of taking a trip to the mall?  Saving money.

"You can find it for way, way low prices," exclaimed Claudia Castillo.

"Usually they put more stuff on sale today," said Lyndsey Harrison.

Best Buy's Home Essentials Associate Chris Bell explained, "There will be some items they don't carry in the story, but will be online-only deals."

It's all about searching for a steal.  Online shoppers have their own tricks of the trade for finding them.

"My favorite search is Alta Vista.  I go there and put what in what I want and it'll send me to other sites, and I'll go to ones that have good prices," Claudia Castillo also explained.

Retailers have seen online sales increase every year due to more confidence in online security.

"We've definitely seen an increase in online shopping because the ease of getting online and people are trusting sites a lot more. It's a lot more secure," said Chris Bell.

The best thing about online shopping is skipping the long lines and never having to leave the comforts of your own home.  Shoppers agree that there is nothing more convenient than turning on your computer to shop.

Chris Bell went on to say, "The ease and convenience of being able to look at something and being able to purchase it, and knowing you're not going to have to fight the hustle and bustle of crowds."

Lyndsey Harrison agreed, "It's so much easier.  I don't have to wait in line.  It can be shipped to me or in the store, and it's less hassle."

Online shopping also widens your options.  If you can't find that special gift at a store near your home, don't worry because it can most likely be found online..

"My husband is a die-hard Dallas Cowboy fan.  So I'll go look for stuff and there's a whole lot of stores who don't sale Dallas Cowboys merchandise, and unique Dallas Cowboy merchandise is usually online," said Claudia Castillo.

If you're planning on shopping online and are counting on free shipping deals beware of deadlines.  Although deadlines vary by retailer, experts agree that most end free shipping by December 17.
