Lufkin hardware store offers Christmas energy tips

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Decorations are part of spreading the holiday joy, but what are they doing to your electricity bill? One store manager strives to point out other alternatives.

"I do point them out because I think it's really important to go green," Lowe's manager Adam Dolton said. "I think it's very important especially in these times."

The hot ticket items this holiday season are ...

"LED lights. These do save up to eighty percent on energy costs."

They also shine brighter and Dolton says there are other factors to consider when comparing them to traditional lights.

"Energy cost. You've got LED, which will last longer, it burns cooler, these will burn hot," Dolton said.

If you aren't ready to transition to these energy efficient decorations, Angelina Beautiful/Clean offers other suggestions.

"Try to put your lights on a timer," Program Manager Amanda Anderson said. "I mean, you want to show off your lights and everything but be also, energy conscious of what you do with your lights."

And think outside the box.

"Look for recycled wrapping paper," Anderson said. "We are actually promoting recycling Christmas cards right now. You can drop off your recyclable Christmas cards at the Chamber of Commerce."

With just a little bit of effort, you might find it can be easy and fun to conserve energy this holiday season.
