LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The news has been dismal coming from the car industry the past 18 months. However, car sales in East Texas are looking up this holiday season.
"I think three or four cars have already been purchased that we're keeping until Christmas and so that's exciting," J.J. Weibe, General Manager of Peltier Chevrolet-Cadillac said. "So someone is going to wake up and see a new ride sitting in the driveway."
"They've increased the incentives this holiday season," Dwayne Stewart, the Sales Manager for Southern Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep said. "So, yeah, a lot of people are coming in."
It's well known there's great deals when buying cars at the end of the year, but this year there's the inventory to back it up.
Commercials advertising year-end clearances always brought people in, but in the past customers were disappointed at what was left to buy.
"Usually in December, we're out of previous year's models, but because they took a break this summer in building cars, they came in late, so now we actually have a good inventory," said Weibe of Peltier Chevrolet-Cadillac.
Last summer's cash for clunkers program kick-started car buying again and car dealers hope this holiday shopping season sees some of the success.
